New Zealand’s finest and D&B world veteran Matt Harvey aka Concord Dawn is back with another hard-hitting EP to pick up where his recently acclaimed 5th studio album, ‘The Enemy Within’, left off. Prolific as ever with a discography full of untold classics the quality control never slides and here Concord Dawn yet again delivers a set of sound system smashers for audio slaves the world over.
Kicking off with his happy cap firmly on Harvey treats us to the uplifting tendencies of ‘Hindsight’ featuring a full riding vocal of Nina McSweeney. Clean breaks, simple but tough bass and soaring pads all combine in the mix to create this feel-good slice of life that’ll give the hardest of floors some welcome respite. ‘Samba Impossible’ takes things into the more familiar realms of dirty tech-infused D&B with funked up mid-range, clattering drums and cool samba percussion to spice things up. Absolutely runnin’, as they say.
Next up ‘Hush’ intros with soft pads drifting over a crispy break and a creepy vocal sample that sets the mood perfectly. Ascending synth stabs signal the drop into a hard-stepping monster of a tune that won’t fail to move you with its naughty drum fills and the return of that sinister vocal for the breakdown. It’s then left to ‘1925’ to finish us off with a heady mix of kettle drums, deep and deadly bass and an offbeat glitch riff that catches you off guard before burrowing its way inside your head. Very cool stuff indeed from the Concord Dawn.
